Ed had earlier taken to his Instagram stories to acknowledge Liam’s passing, adding a simple red heart emoji to One Direction’s statement on Liam’s death.

Five years later, he collaborated with Liam, helping to pen the singer’s first solo track Strip That Down, which was a huge success worldwide.
At the time, Liam told how ‘blessed’ her felt that Ed chose to work with him.
Speaking to Nick Grimshaw on Radio 1, he shared: ‘Honestly, I feel so blessed and honoured that he wanted to write a song for me and I just want to say thank you to him I guess more than anything.
‘It’s amazing, I’m humble. The fact that he even wanted to bother working with us, spending his time.’
The pair remained friends after working together, with Liam going on to praise Ed as a ‘top boy’ in a chat with Z100 in 2017.
He shared: ‘Obviously he wrote my first single, top boy. He’s literally one of the nicest human beings around. And everyone’s got either a crazy party experience or just a really nice experience. I have both.’

Liam then went on to share a humorous story in which he found himself in a lift with Ed, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift and his parents.
He explained: ‘I got in a lift once, my parents were there, this is a really random story. It was a party we had just done a gig for and he joined us on stage. And Taylor Swift was in the lift. I was in the lift, Harry was in the lift, Ed Sheeran, and my parents.
‘And the lift was going up and he just kept going turning around to me going, “Bass.” And that’s all he was saying. “Bass.” So that’s one of my favorite party stories.’
